This information may, where relevant, be passed on to our partners. As provided for in the law of 8/12/1992 on the use of personal data and the protection of privacy, you have the right to view and amend your data.

We believe that “privacy” is particularly important. In the context of our normal activities of providing services, we collect data about you. In this document regarding "privacy", we describe the nature of the details that we collect about you and what may be done with those details. The practices described in this document relating to your privacy apply to the Web sites http://www.parcbooks.be and http://www.averbode.be and, in general, to our partners’ sites. As described below, some of your personal data may be sold to third parties and used by those third parties and by us.

Visitors to the PARCbooks and Averbode sites can register via the site. The personal data that visitors enter on registering are included by PARCbooks and Editions Averbode in their “customer” database.

Database owner: PARCbooks and Averbode.

3.2. Use of data for internal purposes

The data may be used to keep the user informed of our editorial offers. Any subscriber or user wishing to do so can object to that use at any time. This right to object is exercised exclusively through the registration form.

With each e-mail we send you, we also give you the option of removing your name from the mailing list for any subsequent electronic communication.

The data that we collect.
We collect personal data first and foremost in order to offer you an efficient, problem-free service fully dedicated to you. Collecting data gives us the opportunity to provide you with the services and functionalities that suit you best and will allow us to improve the quality of the services intended for you.

We keep some data based on the way in which you surf. We use this data for internal research into the demographics, interests and behaviour of our users, for the purpose of improving our services.

This data may include the URL that you are looking for (provided that URL is on our site), the URL you go to next (ditto), the browser you are using and your IP address.

Cookies
When visitors consult our sites via the Internet, PARCbooks and Editions Averbode place cookies on the visitors’ computer. Cookies are small units of information that are placed on the hard disc of your computer whenever you surf on the Editions Averbode site. The main objective is to offer faster use of our Web site (among other things by avoiding the need to repeat some information, particularly during access controls).

Cookies and log files help us to understanding how the site is used. They are not, under any circumstances, used to find out what information an individual user consults or prints out. The objective is to gather statistical information that should enable us to improve our Web site and to provide information to advertisers.

Most cookies are session cookies, which means that at the end of the session they are automatically deleted from your hard disc. When your browser offers you the option to do so, you can always refuse the cookies but, if you do, it is possible that you may no longer be able to use different functionalities of our site and that you have to enter your password several times during one session.

If you wish to submit opinions to our discussion forums, chat rooms or other parts of the site designed to receive information or if you wish to leave particular information or reports for other users, we collect the data regarding you.

If you would like to send us personal correspondence, such as e-mails or letters, or if you wish to send us correspondence via the site, relating to your activities and intended for other users or third persons, we will be able to gather this data about you in a separate file.

What do we use your data for?
You will agree that we can use your personal data to improve our activities in the field of marketing and promotion, to analyse the use of our site, to improve its content and the products offered on it and to ensure its content, purpose and services fulfil your wishes.

You will also agree that we can use your data to contact you and to pass on information to you. In some cases, the nature of that information will correspond to your centres of interest, for example appropriate banners, administrative data that you should know about, product offers and messages relating to your use of our site. By accepting the users’ agreement and the policy regarding respect of privacy, you give your express agreement to the possibility of receiving that type of information.

3.3. Passing on data to third parties

The following data may be passed on to other business enterprises in regard to which it is agreed that they have information of interest to you: surname, first name, road/street, number, PO box number, post code and town. Subscribers or users who so wish may object to this at any time. This right to object can be exercised through the registration form only.

The following data will not, under any circumstances, be passed on to third parties: e-mail address, date of birth, telephone number, mobile number and other information obtained via the registration.

How do we make the data about you public?
Without losing sight of the existing regulations, we cannot guarantee that your personal messages or other personal data will never be used for anything other than the uses described in this document relating to your privacy.

By way of example, and subject to the above, under certain circumstances, we may be compelled to make data public for the public authority or third parties, third parties may intercept personal communications or messages illegally or have access to them illegally or users may make inappropriate use of data about you collected via our site.

Therefore, despite the fact that our practices in the field of respect of privacy meet the standards in force with regard to business enterprises, we cannot guarantee that your personal data or personal messages will remain confidential at all times.

It is our policy not to sell or hire out any item of data relating to your person (hereafter called personal data). You will find below a description of the way in which your personal data may, however, be the subject of a communication.

Legal provisions.
PARCbooks and Editions Averbode assist investigations carried out within the framework of legal requirements and assist other third persons working in the field of law enforcement, for example in regard to intellectual property, fraud and other laws.

Your use of data provided by other users.
In order to facilitate interaction among the users of our site (e.g. discussion forums or other applications in which e-mail addresses appear), our service offers you only limited access to the data of other users.

PARCbooks and Editions Averbode and the users of this site do not accept any form of SPAM. Subject to the above, you are not therefore permitted to add any user of the Editions Averbode site whomsoever to your mailing list (physical or electronic) without having obtained express authorisation to do so following sufficient disclosure (publication). In order to bring the existence of a spam linked to Editions Averbode to our attention, you can send us an e-mail to info@parcbooks and servicecommandes@verbode.be.

3.4. Data relating to minors

Children cannot use our services and we ask minors (people under the age of 18) not to give us any personal data. Minors may use our services only with the assistance of their parents or legal guardians.

3.5. Use of data from this site.

It is not permitted to use data that allows the sending of spam or, in any other way, of content in breach of our users’ charter.

3.6. Control of your password

You are liable for any action taken with the aid of your user’s name or your password. We ask that you do not reveal your “Averbode” password to third persons. If you decide to give your user’s name or your password to third parties with the intention of allowing them to use the services of the Editions Averbode site, you are liable for any action taken with the aid of your user’s name and your password. If you lose control of your password, you ipso facto lose control of some of your personal data and become party to actions that are legally restrictive because they are undertaken in your name. For this reason, we ask you, in that event, to change your password as soon as possible.

3.7. Checking and changing your personal data

After registering, you can check and amend the data that you have entered yourself.

Following a request from you, we will de-activate your account, your contact details and your financial details. To do this, you must make your request by e-mail to servicecommandes@verbode.be.

In certain circumstances, we may keep some data that you have asked us to destroy. It may be that this data cannot be completely deleted from our databases for technical and legal reasons such as saving operations carried out by the backup systems. It should not be assumed that all your personal data will be deleted after you have made a request to that end.

3.8. Security

PARCbooks and Editions Averbode fulfil the obligations placed on business enterprises with a view to guaranteeing the confidentiality of your personal data, including the use of firewalls and Secure Socket Layers. PARCbooks and Editions Averbode treat your data as valuable information which must be protected against loss and undesirable use. We use a number of different technological safeguards to protect such data from unwanted access by users within or outside of the enterprise. However, there is no such thing as total security on the Internet.

3.9. Availability of the information

Given the significant changes in legislation on protection of privacy, the part of this site which is dedicated to it may be adapted accordingly. Everything is available on the site, at any time, for consultation. We may also amend this document from time to time based on your comments or our requirements.

You can also obtain answers to your questions by sending an e-mail to servicecommandes@verbode.be.
